Microwave Popcorn

Popcorn is a variety of corn kernel, which expands and puffs up when heated. Because of this, it sounds healthy but the reality is something else. Microwave popcorn contains high levels of sodium and chemical diacetyl not only this, it is so high in sugar, salt or fat that they should fall under the category of unhealthy snack instead of a healthy snack.

A bag of popcorn which you get in cinema can contain a whole lot of calories. So what should we do, after all, popcorn is something that everyone loves? How can we make it a healthy snack? Nutritionist Vicky Bruce advises us to make a choice of small boxes of popcorn at the cinemas instead of hogging on large size or tub size or air popping it at home and combining it with dried fruit and nuts can actually balance your blood sugar and you don’t even need to ban it from your life.


Light Salad Dressings

Salads are always considered full package of vitamins and powerful antioxidants as it contains vitamin C and E, folic acid and lycopene and alpha and beta carotene especially if your bowl of salads contains some raw vegetables. Having salads are always considered good but having light salad dressings? Amm, Na.

The reason, they are filled with preservatives and other additives that you can’t even imagine. Salad dressing especially commercial mayonnaise are harmful to health because it is made out of soybean oil, corn oil and other vegetable oil blends that are high in omega 6 fats which can lead to obesity, arthritis and cardiovascular diseases. So now the choice is your light salad dressings or plain salad. I know you are smart!


Flavoured Fat-Free Yogurt

Nowadays big food brands are launching yogurt which is completely fat-free as well as flavoured. Wow! Sounds stunning as they know how to rule the market. But innocent buyers, it would be better if you don’t fall into their trap. People have this misconception that if something is fat-free then it must be healthy, but it is not.

Flavored yogurt is usually high in sodium content causing water retention in the body and resulting in bloating. They don’t even contain real fruit but contain the pureed form which is high in sugar content. If someone wants to understand the difference in calorie intake, then one must compare the ingredients of regular yogurt and flavored one. Flavoring your plain yogurt with natural sweeteners like honey, fruits like strawberries, mangoes, papaya, and grapes is a healthy idea.


Flavoured Soymilk

When it comes to being healthy, one small mistake that we all do is that we go for those products that sound “healthy” not for them which are “actually healthy”. Same mistake we usually do by buying flavoured soymilk and don’t even think once before buying it.

Soy has numerous health benefits like a high amount of protein and potassium and its low in cholesterol. Not only its rich in such things but it is an excellent source of fiber, vitamin B, calcium and omega 3 fatty acids. Using soymilk for occasional dessert is not a bad idea, but for everyday drinking go for unsweetened or plain varieties.


Energy Drinks

These days the whole market is filled with lots of energy drinks which promise buyer to provide energy. And give a killer workout with no added caffeine, full of vitamins and minerals but the fact is something else. This sounds very tempting but the truth is it has lots of caffeine and sorry to say no vitamins and minerals. These promises sound very fascinating but they are not at all healthy.

Supplements and energy drinks are two things which aren’t regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) which is very sad. If you want to remain on safer track, go for plain water because no drink in this world is as good as water. Water will not only rehydrate your body but will also give you nutrition to energize. Be wise!


Smoothies

Next on our list is smoothies. Smoothies are one of the most lip smacking thing ever created. Some smoothies are made with simple, whole food ingredients which can be healthy it’s time to be smart. Don’t buy anything just because it has a tag of ‘’smoothie”.

Smoothies are made with a lot of added sugars, high-calorie ingredients like chocolate syrup or even full fat ice cream are used as a base. Well, if a drink contains so much sugar and calorie better say NO to it. Make your own smoothie at home and enjoy it without taking any tension of calorie and too much sugar.
